Please note that the following mail came to me March 31. If it isn't
too late, please contact your FLORIDA LEGISLATORS and tell them what

Subject: Fla.House cuts dental, hearing and visual aid to minors

This alert comes from Karen Woodall, a veteran lobbyist of more than
20 years who has devoted herself to social justice issues. Karen has
seen a lot legislative carnage and does not often react emotionally
to events there.
Today, however, is an exception. See the information below on how to
contact your legislator.

Today, Friday, the Florida House of Representatives voted to restrict
access to dental, hearing and visual aid for very low income people
to those under 21 years of age.

They also voted to change the law to reduce coverage for people over
65 and people with disabilities from 100% of the Federal Poverty
level to 90%.
There was a lot of smoke and mirrors going on here....on the one hand
the leadership offered an amendment to restore the cuts made to
reduce pregnant women from 185% of poverty to 150% and to restore
funding for seniors and people with disabilities from 85% to 90% -
both cuts that were made in the appropriations sub-committee.
Attempts to restore funding for dental,hearing and visual assistance
to very low-income adults failed.

What wasn't mentioned was the fact that they adopted WITH ABSOLUTELY
NO DISCUSSION language in the "Medicaid implementing bill" HB 1753 by
Maygarden,language that reduces the eligibility for Seniors and
people with disabilities from 100% to 90% making it impossible to
increase the budget beyond 90% of the Federal Poverty level - 100% of
poverty for a single person is $8,590.

Florida increased the eligibility level for these very low income
folks to 100% of poverty in 1988. In 1991 funding was reduced to 90%
via proviso in the budget. The reduction was promised to
be "temporary". Well, here it is 2001 and the budget has never been
restored to the full 100%. So, instead of increasing the budget the
House leadership is attempting to change the statute to reflect the
abysmal funding.

Twenty-one other states fund elderly and disabled with incomes at or
above the federal poverty level. Mississippi funds them at 135%!!!!

It was stated on the House floor that we should not worry about this
cut because last year Florida led the nation in passing an innovative
prescription drug bill providing coverage to Seniors who were between
90% and 120% of poverty - therefore those who were being cut off of
Medicaid (between 90 & 100%) will be covered.

What wasn't mentioned on the Floor of the House, by anyone from
EITHER PARTY, is the fact that coverage under the "Model Prescription
Drug Act" is MUCH MORE LIMITED than is Medicaid. First, there is a
10% co-pay on the purchase of every drug and second there is a limit
of $80 a month per person.

The Agency for Health Care Administration has stated that the average
cost per month for the folks who are in the MEDS-AD program is $486
per month.....so the House is now asking people who live on $8,590 a
month to fork over at least $406 a month....SUCH A BARGAIN and
innovative too!

IF HB 1753 is not amended to restore eligibility for Seniors and
people with disabilities to 100% and to restore coverage for visual,
dental and hearing for adults over 21 years of age IT SHOULD BE
DEFEATED NEXT WEEK WHEN IT IS UP FOR A FINAL VOTE!!

EVERY HOUSE MEMBER NEEDS TO BE CONTACTED WITH THIS MESSAGE EARLY IN
THE WEEK.

Wow, Tyla thank you so very much !! And since we have a child it really
makes things easier. :-) Needless to say we are quite used to CHASING those
screaming heathens. (pun intended) :-) No really, we do love having the
opportunity to contribute to the growth of our family. Especially working
with the children. They are our future and will be the ones pushing around
our wheel chairs.

Suzanne & I have some wonderful new ideas for Fires @ Solstice for the
children and look forward to sharing them. Needless to say as our son grows
so does Gaia's Garden.

Again, thank you to the community for the donations, face painting and
smiling faces. We could not do it without you.

Blessings of Abundance
Lena

Once more, I'm completely off the subject because I'm so far behind on reading
all of the messages, but...

I am desperately searching for a used medieval or renaissance style
tent/pavillion, and am running out of places to look... anyone have any ideas?
Since the merchants at the festivals use this style of tent, I thought
someone out there might know someone who knows someone who is selling theirs.
LOL

And because I'm so far behind, if you could email me directly at
oakwind@usa.net I would really appreciate it.

Oh, and I love the chocolate pie fight! I've been enjoying standing on the
sidelines and licking the splatters off my arms. <g>

Blessed Be!

5) What can we do to increase attendance at the village meetings?

well, we (all in attendance of village meetings and council) could elect
ourselves as THE VOICE of everyone at the festival and rule the roost!
Of couse, if that does not get everyone attending then we'll have to try
something else because I for one, would make an awful tyrant dictator.
Seriously though, it is a very touchy subject. "Requirements" are
avoided like a disease by some....and that is their perfect right. I
think that the only thing that would be realistic would be to have the
persons working registration make verbal announcements to those who
register. They could say something like, "Your voice can be heard by
the community at village meetings/tribal council.....are you familiar
with these events?" We can trust that the voices that are supposed to
be heard, will be. We are are a magickal community...those who attend
the meetings and those who do not. There IS a circle within a circle.

Just my comments are given here.....no judgements...only perceptions.
Accept what you will and trash what you do not like. and blessed blee

Mino

i certainly did not mean to imply making village meetings mandatory or
anything like that. if they were, i certainly wouldn't attend. it's just
that people always talk about what a great community we have at
festivals but hardly any one shows up for the 2 things that truly make
up the community, the village meeting and the village council, the 2
opportunities where each individual has an input on the parameters that
make up the community. it's something that has puzzled me for the 10
years that i have been attending pagan festivals. one of my 2 pet
peeves. (the other is people blowing off their work shifts.)

Hi Debbie,
i agree that the current time of meetings is inconvenient while
preparing dinner. i had to throw one away and start over friday night
because wade's famous quick meeting started late and ran long. i still
haven't scraped ALL of the carbon off the grill. but if you are with a
group, usually someone can spare 10 minutes.

Personally, i loved the voodoo ritual, although certainly the drumming
friday night was WAY better than saturday night. I don't think that
there was necessarily any connection with the ritual. Friday nights
drumming was among the BEST i have EVER heard at a gathering.

Hey folks - speaking of raising $$$ for the community Land Fund I'd like to
ask a question:

My husband and I design and manufacture pure silver jewelry. If Phoenix
Festivals agreed to a design for each of the festivals, would anyone be
willing to purchase a pure silver charm about the size of a nickel for
$14.95 as a commemorative piece (ie, PhoenixPhyre 2001, Phyres of Solstice
2001, AutumnMeet 2001) with a design on them for each festival to make into
a charm bracelet or wear as a pendant?

If the answer is yes, we can actually make these for about $5 and that would
be a donation of $10 for each one sold for the Land fund!

Any comments?

All right now.....

Crow rummages in her bag of tricks and pulls out....(no, not a rabbit - she
tosses the fluffy thing away gently, and it scampers off into the depths of
the wild Garden) two spray cans of whipped cream.

"Hrmmm.... a little retro, but it'll do," she says, smirking, before
shrieking the war cry of the long-lost Hir-shi tribe and splattering
Starfire and Lyl with nitrous-powered sweetness!

Starfire watches Miss Crow from behind a stout oak tree(*giggle*) on
one of the garden paths. Miss Crow sports only a few splatters of
chocolate pudding. Starfire looks down at her supply and realizes
she has only one spoonful left of ammunition. Oh well, she is sure
she can borrow a super soaker from somebody; meanwhile Miss Crow
seems a very good target for that last spoonful!
Fwing!
Splat!

Sounds like a really good idea, and very generous as well.

Rrom Jack (Seawolf),

I like this idea and would be glad to add to it.

That could include ritual, ritual pieces (e.g.
quarters), poetry,
drawings, music, etc. What is the community
thought?

I am sure there is someone out there who could
promote/publish
something of this nature. The artists, writers,
etc. could hold all
copyrights, and release just for this publication,
initially.

Does anyone remember the old journal, "The Crystal
Well"? Perhaps
something along this line, and we could sell to
those outside of the
Phamily. (Or to othose inside of the phamily,
too!!!)

I did layout, etc. in the old cut and paste
days...like with a light
table, and real paper and paste...LOL...the computer
would make this
kind of endeavor a bit less difficult.

Oh, well, just an idea...
Blessings,
Tyla

i work for a vocation school and we do our entire brochure in microsoft publisher. it looks nice and is not overly costly to print. we generally get about 20,000 for about $3500.00. this is with a full color front page and two colors through out the booklet.

just thought i'd share that.

Maybe it would be wise to take pre orders. That way you aren't left
with charms and no buyer. I would love to order one just let me know
what to do.

Just wanted to let everyone know that everything is still a go for this Saturday at the Ranch. Hope to see you there! SpellQuest
~~~~~
"DRUMMING AT THE RANCH"
SATURDAY APRIL 7TH
GATES OPEN AT 2:00 PM
THIS EVENT IS FREE
Sponsored by: "The Melbourne Drum Tribe" and "Pagan Pathway Community"
The festivities will begin at 2:00 PM everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy 100 acres of beautiful land, bring your tent and spend the night, come out and walk around, get away from the hum drum of the city, and enjoy a beautiful day, go exploring, you never know what you might find out there, I have seen Deer, Wild Turkey's, and much more, but what's important is what you find within yourself, for that is where it counts.
This is a BYOE which means bring your own everything, this is a primitive site, and that being said what you bring in will be expected to be taken back out when we leave.
If you have never been out at the Ranch, you will be in for a wonderful surprise, this is a safe environment, that we have been graciously allowed to used, and each time that we have had an event out there it has been better then the one before. It will be a potluck dinner so bring something that you can share.
Bring your instruments, bring your voice, bring your laughter, bring your heart and mind, for they will all be used as we come together as individuals, as we come together as friends.
Cauldron of Fire will be facilitating the Full Moon Ritual
On a seperate note, we will also be celebrating the 40th birthday of one of the people who allows us to use this land, namely my brother, so make sure you tell him Happy Birthday, when you see, and for those of you who have never met my brother, you will know him instantly.
Directions:
If you are coming by way of the Florida Turnpike, then get off at SR 192 and head east, this will take you through St Cloud, continue to take 192 until you reach Holopaw, you will know you are in Holopaw when you reach the Flashing Yellow Light, make a right turn, take this road down until you reach the Radio Tower with the Flashing Red Light at the top, this is on the right side of the road, and the Ranch is right across from that. There is a sign outside that reads Bulls For Sale, and we will have Balloons on the Gate. Follow the drive way around the fire pit is in the middle of the field.
If you are coming by way of I-95, then get off at exit 71 which is SR 192 and head west, until you reach the Flashing yellow light, at the light you will make a left turn take this road down until you reach the Radio Tower with the Flashing Red Light at the top, this is on the right side of the road, and the Ranch is right across from that. There is a sign outside that reads Bulls For Sale, and we will have Balloons on the Gate. Follow the drive way around the fire pit is in the middle of the field.
If you do happen to get lost you can reach us at the Ranch Phone: 407-436-0244, we will forward this number to a cell phone if we are not going to be in the cabin. The cabin btw is off limits during the event.
If you have any questions please email them to me at spellqst@iag.net
Blessings to you all, and I look forward to seeing you at the Ranch, for an excellent time.
Having just finished licking the whipped cream off of her arms
(mmmmmmmm...delicious. Thanks, Miss Crow!) Starfire finds her
clothes, gets dressed and walks to the local WalMart.
The people there look at her strangely. Starfire realizes that,
while her arms are clean, the rest of her body is not! She gets a
look in a handy mirror and realizes also that her hair is now
standing straight up, thanks to the whipped cream!(Quite a feat, I
know. Good aim, Miss Crow!) Hmmmmm.....
Starfire takes a detour to the ladies' room and washes off the best
that she can. Now she's wet, but presentable!
She goes back out into the store to the toy section, and gets three
super soakers off of the shelf. She swings around to the food
section and gets........
(drumroll, please)
White Zinfandel, Strawberry milk, and.......chocolate syrup! And of
course, more chocolate pudding!
Starfire pays for her purchases and leaves the Walmart. On her way
back to the garden, she loads the three super-soakers. She sneaks
back into the garden, sheds her clothes, and searches for
targets......
She spies Miss Crow sneaking through the undergrowth! Takes aim,
fires....
SPLAT!SPLAT!SPLAT!
Miss Crow is now covered in chocolate syrup!
LOL
Love you Miss Crow
Starfire
;-)
