PhoenixPhyre 2006: Guest Speakers & Music
Posted on Feb 12, 2006 - 11:41 PM by Dianne

Gatherings New Friends and Old Join the phamily in April this year

Donald Michael Kraig

Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, Don’s early life was one conservative Judaism, which to him meant be good to others, attend religious services and everything else will turn our okay. Just before his Bar Mitzvah, however, one of the Rabbis at his temple demonstrated to Don some of the techniques of Judaism which were more mystical in nature. Thus began a search for the inner truths of life that has lasted over three decades.
Don has received a B.A. in philosophy from UCLA and has studied music there and at other colleges and universities He has performed musically at major venues in Southern California and, playing keyboards in rock bands, has opened for such diverse acts as Elton John and Great White. Recently he received a fellowship to USC where he received a certificate in multimedia, 3D graphics and animation and web design. He went on to work for major computer software companies and teach computers at USC.

Don is a Certified Tarot Master, an honor bestowed upon him after intense study by The Associated Readers Of Tarot, a not-for-profit, international, educational organization. Later he was awarded the rank of Certified Tarot Grandmaster. He is an ordained minister and holds a Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy. Don was the Editor-in-Chief of The Llewellyn New Times (now renamed New Worlds) for three years and FATE magazine, America’s longest-established magazine (over 40 years). He was the editor for Llewellyn’s on-line journal, found at www.llewellynjournal.com and is now an editor for New Worlds. He even had a radio show, “The FATE Magazine Radio Hour.”

Don has been a member of several metaphysical and magical organizations. After ten years of personal study and practice he began to teach classes in the Southern California area on such topics as Kabalah, Tantra, Tarot, magick, psychic development, psychic self-defence and Wicca. Over the next ten years he refined his teaching style. He took his most popular classes, expanded on them and refined them into what has become Modern Magick, the first step-by-step coursebook in ceremonial magick. Almost 600 pages in length, the book is arranged into 11 time-tested lessons. It explains such subjects as magick, Kabalah, Tarot, Tantra, talismans, reincarnation, sex magick, pathworking and much more in a clear, easy-to-understand and easy-to-use manner.

Author of Tarot & Magick, Modern Sex Magick, Magician’s Workbook, and Magical Diary, in addition to Modern Magick, Don now lives in Venice Beach, California, and teaches workshops both internationally and all over the U.S. He is studying for a doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy.

Patricia Telesco

Trish Telesco is the mother of three, wife, chief human to 5 pets, and a full-time professional author with more than 40 metaphysical books on the market.

While her actual Wiccan education was originally self-trained and self-initiated, she later received initiation into the Strega tradition of Italy, which gives form and fullness to the folk magic Trish practices. Her strongest beliefs lie in following personal vision, being tolerant of other traditions, making life an act of worship, and being creative so that magic grows with you.

Trish has appeared on several television segments, including one for Sightings on multi-cultural divination systems. Trish maintains a strong, visible presence in metaphysical journals including Circle Network News, and on the internet through popular web sites like The Witches Voice, her home page located at www.loresinger.com, and various appearances on internet chats and bbs boards.

Elspeth of Haven

Teacher, counselor, and Crone-on-the-Road, Elspeth is cofounder of the Haven Community, and proponent of the Haven Way, an eco-spiritual path of personal and planetary transformation. It is her strong belief that we are all healers, and that healing is our evolutionary mission.

Nybor of Haven

Nybor has been creating artistic masterpieces for the last 50 years and sold his first piece of art at the age of six. He has owned and operated art studios in Minneapolis and New York City and is renowned for his black and white science fiction art, including book and magazine covers and interiors.

Scarlett Ross
Scarlett Ross is a teacher, seeker, dreamer and Southern kitchen witch who cherishes a life of dreams and happiness with her husband, young son, cat, family, and spiritual community. Scarlett travels throughout the Southeast discussing her books (“Nostradamus for Dummies”, “Dreams of the Goddess” and “Spells: An Anthology”) and sharing her personal spiritual path, including workshops on personal divinity, dreams and spirituality, and women’s spirituality. Indigo Village, Inc.,a non-profit, non-religious New Age educational group, has become a focus for Scarlett as she concentrates on moving education into a new paradigm.

Doss*Millard*Kelso - DMK

Expect the Dreamtrybe songs you love!

Keyboardist Ginger Doss and bassist Lynda Millard are a double vocal harmonic powerhouse with a mix of influences. Their long-term partnership started with forming the all-female progrock band, Velvet Hammer, with Dana Davis, Katrina Lassberg, and later, Robin Beacham. Later, the duo formed Dreamtrybe with the addition of Lynda’s son, Tabber.

This newest evolution combines the talents of these former members of Dreamtrybe, Lynda and Ginger, combined with the rich voice of Bebeca Kelso to play some old favorites and some new, in an intimate acoustic setting with the help of some of our community’s best drummers.

Shining Wheel Pagan Chorus

Pagan music fans who like rock, pop, reggae, gospel, funk, blues, or any combination of these styles, will hear music that will satisfy them.

The eclectic Clearwater, Florida-based band, who have toured the southeast and whose first CD, Chants of Balance, has been highly acclaimed in PanGaia, NewWitch, and Circle Sanctuary magazines, will perform Friday, April 7th. The band’s songs are written by its members, whose main goal with their music is to share the energy of the God andGoddess.

Samples of their music can be heard at www.cdbaby.com/shiningwheel. They are currently in the studio working on their second CD, and several of the new songs will be performed, as well as favorites from Chants of Balance, at the PhoenixPhyre concert.

Nighthawk

Nighthawk and the Phoenix Drumtrybe, with maturity and experience, help facilitate drum circles with cohesive rhythms that last long into the night and keep the dancers moving and drummers at the fire. And the circle has been expanded, so ther’s plenty of space for drumming, dancing, and even, if we’re very fortunate, some fire spining!
