Soapbox: A New Name for Changing Times
Posted on Nov 22, 2005 - 10:47 AM by Shayshayni

General Interest This is but a simple opportunity to share my experiences with the never ending awe of magick.

When I was first introduced to the concept of choosing a magickal name, I was empowered. I thought long and hard about my first name and finally decided upon Silverfox. This name seemed appropriate as my wisdom is well beyond my years, as those who know me and have met me can attest to. At a tender age of 15, I could easily rival the maturity and worldly knowledge of those three times my age.

Several years passed with this name when one day I had a feeling, an itch almost, that it was time to move on, that it was time to change. I felt something inside me growing, transforming and so I made the effort to find a new name.

Now in my possession I had a beautiful Amazonian butterfly which was given to me by a very close friend. I have always had an affinity for butterflies, especially this one. I've had many a unique experience with them flying with me, landing on me and I have quite a collection of preserved butterflies. I searched online for the name of this creature and found it on a website call Butterfly Utopia.

Here is my butterfly.

It is called a Blue Morpho Didius.

Taking this name and moving it around a bit, I came to the variation Blue Morphae.

I did the math, determined the number and it was exact. The first thing that I tried, Blue Morphae, matched my birth number and I knew immediately that this was to be my new name.

Upon choosing my new name, I felt as though I was in a dream like state.

I packed up my camping gear and made my way to the Festival in the fall of 2004.

Once there, the significance of my new name took on an even deeper meaning.

I was speaking with a woman, I cannot remember her name but, she told me of the Native American story of the butterfly woman who was both the maiden and the crone. The circle was complete. I had chosen a new name and it still found precidence in the fact that I was well beyond my years. I am the Maiden and the Crone. I am young at heart but, ever wise.

My totem; the butterfly, my favorite color; blue (even down to the shade!), and my transformation manifested. I found my name, I found my home. So mote it be.
