Soapbox: What is a Crone?
Posted on May 17, 2004 - 03:51 PM by ArdeithCarter

Gatherings The simplest definition of a Crone is a woman who is menopausal or post-
menopausal. A Croning is a Rite of Passage honoring that time in a woman's
life. That's it . . . a Rite of Passage . . . no more, or less, than
any other Rite of Passage in a person's life. Becoming a Crone does not
mean we immediately acquire wisdom.

The PhoenixPhyre Phamily has treated the PhoenixCrones with respect and
courtly manners for many years, and we appreciate such treatment. But
we must always remember that such treatment is given to us out of love;
it is not something we can demand of others. We owe our Phamily the same
courteous behavior they show to us. "Just because we are Crones" gives us
no right to be rude to others.

When we attend PhoenixPhyre events, we must always remember that we are
laying a foundation for the Crones of the future and strive to set as
good an example as we can manage. "Just because we are Crones" give us
no right to disregard the safety rules for such events.
When a woman reaches the Crone stage of her life she may go through a
drawing inward, and a reaching outward. She may draw within to work
on her own Spritiual growth, or to devote time to deep study. She may
reach outward and become more active in the greater community. And for
some it is an interesting process of trying to do both at the same time.
But it is a new learning process in our lives as we try to attain the
knowledge and wisdom of the Crone.

Ardy

Note: Thank You Ardy. The Phoenix Phamily is always richer when Phamily speaks out!
