Jacksonville Pagan Pride Day 2005
When: Aug. 27th. 2005
Where: Jacksonville, Florida
Local Pagan Pride Day and Emerald Rose concert
Event Details: Jax Pagan Pride Day is on August 27 from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. We are again holding our event at the beautiful grounds of UUCJ (7405 Arlington Expressway, 32210) .
In addition to all the activities that will be happening during Jacksonville Pagan Pride Day, we would like the members of this community to again come and set up informational altars to represent the path they follow. The only requirement for setting up an altar is that you RSVP by August 10 so we can include you in the advertising for the day. Our idea is to mark areas around the grounds with banners. At each of these areas, we hope that a group will set up some type of altar/table/set up/decoration with written explanations of what is being shown. This will allow the guests to learn what we have here in Jacksonville. THIS is what Pagan Pride Day is all about! We are proud to be in Jacksonville, as a Pagan, and to be part of this learning group!
Once again, we will be collecting non-perishable foods for the Arlington Community Center and pet supplies for the Stray Cat House. They need towels, cat food, litter and bleach.
Our community will be offering a public Mabon ritual at 5 pm. This will be a ritual to honor this time of year and all paths are encouraged and welcome to stand in circle with us! Pagan Pride Day is a time to celebrate togetherness - let's all celebrate that!!
We will be offering up to 15 workshops and classes, and that schedule will start at 11 am. Please see the Events page for more detail.
Emerald Rose is returning for another PPD concert and they will be performing at 6 pm.
Childcare will be a big hit again this year.
Concession will be offered this year again. This was a huge success last year - we heard so many comments that people enjoyed the menu, the low prices, and the availability of food and drink. So, look for Chefs Terra and Brian to be serving up the burger, veggie burger and hot dog fare. Yummy!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Now, here comes the plea for help. We hope that you are excited after reading all the fun events that JPPD 2005 will have to offer. We hope you are excited enough to want to be a part of making it happen! This year, we've made the volunteer program even more enticing. Click here for our schedule and task list. Every volunteer will get a goody bag and meal, drink and snack tickets, and discount coupons at our merchants, and extra raffle tickets! We need about 50 people to ensure the day goes smoothly and everyone enjoys themselves. If you are interested, please contact Zee at eaz999@bellsouth.net or call 307-5889 and leave a message if there is no answer.
Event Location: 7405 Arlington Expy in Jacksonville
Event TIME Details: 10am - 7pm
Directions: Please see www.uujax.org or email us for directions!

Please join us for Jacksonville Pagan Pride Day 2003! Once again, we will be honoring our community with a Pagan Pride Project event including a charity drive and community ritual. Our charity drives this year are a non-perishable food drive for the Arlington Community Center and pet supplies for The Stray Cat House. See our website for a detailed list of needed items. There is no charge for the Pagan Pride event, but for every item you donate, or every $1 you donate, you will receive one raffle ticket. We will use these tickets to draw for door prizes throughout the day. We have the most incredible door prizes donated by local merhcants and event vendors.
The community ritual will honor Mabon and is hosted by Lena Queen. Ritual begins at 5pm. Don't miss the Children's Parade to the ritual circle at 4:45pm.
Again this year, we are thrilled to have Emerald Rose headlining our stage at 6pm!! We also have the local drumming group, Rhythm Festival performing and two Atlanta bands, Skyy Pilot and Spiral Rhythm playing during the day.
There will be workshops held from 11 to 5. A children's area will be offering different activities all day.
Pagan Pride Day is offering their own concession, with yummy low cost meals, drinks and snacks. Vegetarian options are available.
We are still looking for volunteers to help that day. Please contact us if you'd like to help!
We are excited about making this the best event in Jacksonville, and possibly the nation! Join us for the fun, learning, and excitement!

We planted a tree today. It seems like such a simple thing. Dig a big hole. Mix cow manure with dirt and place in big hole. Remove tree from pot. Place tree in hole. Add more Cow manure and dirt mix to cover. Rake the ground level. Add mulch in an even circle around tree. Take photos.
Magick is often a simple thing in its appearance. This day we did magick. We planted a tree. We took a life that had only known confinement and we set it free. We took a life that had know only the minimal care and love and gave it a family. We took a young life and promised it a future of grand old age. We gave this young life a community, that will honor and cherish it for its gifts. We stood with our new tree, we touched our new tree, and for a moment or two knew our new tree in away that few humans can know a tree. We have a tree in Boone Park Jacksonville. It is our tree, our brother, our child, our family. It will come to know the squirrels and birds who will feed from its branches. It will come to know the children who will play near by. It will know dogs, and joggers, and a myriad of others, but it will always know us as its family. Welcome to your new home Tree, may you experience much joy and happiness.
Soon a brick boarder will honor those who contributed $10.00 or more. An engraving party is being plan, hints of a pool nearby have been whispered. Thus far the names to be engraved are as follows:
Buster
Phoenix Phamily
Jewel Box
Shauna Iannone
Songdancer Design Concepts
Nike Boy
Phoenyx
NE. FL. CUUPS
CAW
I would like to say a special thank you to Native and Uncommon Plants of Jacksonville; Leslie was a great help, and chose for us a wonderful tree. I would also like to thank the City of Jacksonville?s Parks Maintenance Division; working with Marlo was a delight. The biggest thanks goes to everyone who attended Tuesday?s Tree planting, you made it all the more special just by being there; Thank you!

An Article by Roxanne Johnson-Turel
The true spirit of the season, is embraced by the Pagans in Jacksonville. Pagans Celebrate Winter Solstice or Yule on December 21st or 22nd . Most of the celebrations and symbols of this holiday are steeped in ancient traditions dating back thousands of years B.C. It is the longest night of the year. It is a time of feasting, gift giving, and celebrating the fact that from, here the days will grow longer and warmer.
Good work is done by the Pagan Community in Jacksonville, throughout the year. This is especially true during the Winter Holidays. Pagans in Jacksonville are very active in the community at large not just with fellow Pagans. Elizabeth Ziemba (Known as Zee), is the Local Chairperson of the Jax Pagan Pride Project and State Chairperson for the Pagan Unity Campaign as well as Chairperson of NE FL CUUPS ( North East Florida Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans). These organizations do much charitable work, for anyone in need. Recent global events seem to have made embracing diversity something more talked about, than practiced. No one in need is ever turned away. Nothing is required in return to receive help.
Non-perishables for Yule Dinner Baskets for needy families were collected and distributed by NE FL CUUPS. New and unwrapped toys were also collected and individual children were sponsored on a Fairy Tree as well. Fairy Trees work just like an Angel Tree. Each Fairy carries the name and description of a specific child; so that gifts are just for them, making them feel special. A Fairy Tree is especially great for anyone who hasn’t got a young child in the family to spoil.
One Family in particular, who received a Yule Dinner and Fairy Gifts, for the children, became an experience in what the season is really all about. When the holiday delivery was made, of course the wrapped new toys were kept secret. Yet Zee and her crew had an extra surprise. Since a donation of any kind is never turned away, there was big box of used toys that had been freshly cleaned and repaired. These were brought along for these three sweet little girls to choose whatever they wanted from the box. What was coming to them that day would be all the gifts they would receive this year. Naturally, the girls gleefully turned over the box and emptied out the contents. They had a grand old time looking at and playing with each one.
When it was time to leave, the girls were asked choose what they wanted, then to pack the rest back in the box. They did this quietly and politely. When the box was loaded back up, it was discovered that the girls had gone into their rooms and brought out toys of their own to put back in the box as well. These precious little ones did this of their own accord. With no prompt at all, they automatically pay it forward. "You see?" Zee was given to remark. "This is what makes every minute of hard work worthwhile." she said with a twinkle in her eye.
The Yule Dinner and toy donations as well as the Fairy Tree Gifts, were kindly collected for CUPPS at Earth Gifts, the New Age, Metaphysical store in Jacksonville. Through her charitable work in Jacksonville, Zee discovered to her surprise, that some organizations turned down support that came from a Pagan group. Arlington Community Center however, is always glad to see her. So any and all, extra donations went to Arlington Community Center to brighten the Holiday for those there.

From Missy: For those of you who know Ed and Barb (the good and the bad *smile*)
They've had a tragedy today. While out of town for Ed to have a sleep
study, their house in Green Cove caught on fire and from what we know right
now it is a total loss. Barb called from the road, they're on their way
home. Her mom called them and they called the fire department and confirmed
it. As can be understood, they are very upset. They had animals that
probably were lost in the fire. Please send healing and loving energy to
them to help them get through today and until they can get things back together again. | | Note: We will update everyone as soon as we know more, We don't yet know what the extent of the damage is but we know they will need to basics.
